PLASTIQUE (Exhibition Advertisements)
September 2006
18.5 x 14" & 5.5 x 7" / an edition of 20 (poster) / an edition of 140 (flyer)
PRINT: letterpress [lead & wood type/ borders/ ephemera/ linoleum block carving]These advertisements were prepared for a sequence of exhibitions I curated. The project, entitled PLASTIQUE: a Gallery of Poetics, was inspired by Charles Bernstein's Poetry Plastique, an installment of multi-media work produced by poets and artists of other genres, all of which incorporated language (text) into their work. I read the book of the same title, which documents the event, and immediately went to work on planning a similar event, encouraged by the knowledge that many of my colleagues had been manufacturing similar works of multi-media poetics. I wanted to take a 'grass roots' approach to advertising the event, but I also wanted to create a kind of advertisement that could be perceived as a literal part of what it advertised. This poster and flier combination is intended to serve as just that.
